Tenacity
Tenacity is what matters in Nairobi City,
A land of gifted youth with too much audacity.
United by blood but divided by wealth,
We have each other and that is our health.
Where fads are determined by the soul's elasticity,
Later they might take off and sell with stunning velocity.
In other areas it's a fight to the death,
Some work in garbage that burns with every breath.
In the slum, strength is in ferocity;
In class, power is to be found in precocity.
A concrete jungle that makes a visitors ego melt,
Some living a Kenyan dream that is everywhere felt.
Nothing here will save you but eccentricity,
That and indecipherable vivacity.
No one though will tamper with the hand you've been dealt,
You must simply be yourself for that is stealth.
Something's got to give in this land of the meek,
Some are homeless everyday of the week,
Solitude is power and this faith will trend,
Find in yourself what you could not in a friend.
Boys will boys and swagger will speak,
Some will kill for the wealth they seek,
Rich and poor come together in a fecund blend,
Welcome to Africa where you must overspend.
Everyone is a hero and everyone is a geek,
The ladies are classy, attractive and sleek.
The city is alive as far as it extends,
All will profit from the energy they expend,
A commercial hub where nothing is bleak,
Africa is about culture and Nairobi must peak.
There are fishes to fry and bridges to mend,
Don't lose sight of the innocence you defend.
